About

Hi, my name is Tressa Beaulieu (pronouns she/her), a Métis woman originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario now living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have a Bachelor of Sciences degree with a major in Human Nutritional Sciences and a minor in Indigenous studies from the University of Manitoba. I hold the titles of a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator.

As an avid equestrian for the past 20 years, I sought to combine my passions of nutrition, traditional land-based teachings and horses. The end result is a unique, culturally sensitive, and empowering business called ‘Red Horse Connection’.

Inspiration for Red Horse Connection stems from a long and strong ancestral line of Métis women who simply love horses and see the benefits they have in the lives of people.
Red Horse Connection is founded on the Anishinaabe teaching that horses are the tellers of truth, guiding people in the right direction and helping them understand their place in the circle of life. For this reason I believe they make influential teachers in today's modern world.
Above teaching provided by: Darcy Whitecrow (Pay ba mom coot, Coming cloud) of the Muskrat Clan and from Chi ma a ga nin (Place where they catch fish with nets).

What Equine Assisted Learning Is

We can learn a lot from horses. Equine assisted learning is an emerging framework where horses are seen as the teachers for the development of everyday life skills such as self-worth, communication, leadership, trust and relationship building.

Equine Assisted Learning is:
→ a learner based educational experience with horses (non-riding)
→ objectively driven exercises where participants find themselves learning valuable life skills
→ an effective approach to human development that encourages individual and team growth
   → fun and engaging!

Research has shown that Equine Assisted Learning can be effective, powerful, positive, educational, and creative. The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning’s program emphasizes it’s BuildingBlock™ curriculum of facilitating life skills through positively reinforced interaction with horses. Exercises are developed to encourage self confidence through validated, hands-on experiences.

Current research has found this experiential form of learning to be most effective. It includes specially-designed, non-riding exercises facilitated by a Certified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator. The horse’s non-verbal cues are observed by the Certified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator and translated to the participants to help guide them to a desired learning objective. The horse is seen as the teacher and embodies a holistic approach to learning and healing.
